4. Convenience and space saving.
The hood solar panel adheres directly to the vehicle’s hood, requiring no roof rack or mounting hardware. The complete plug-and-play system can be installed easy. Unlike a portable solar panel, there’s no need to set it up or stow it inside of a vehicle, which can eat up precious cargo space.
5. Protect and extend battery life:As a result our batteries are only at about 60% charge at best if you drive it daily, if you park it for 2-3 weeks it won’t start in the summer. Also the battery goes bad in 2-3 years. Hood solar panel keep the vehicle battery charge to maintain the battery.

The vinyl decal install on the hood in the same way that traditional hood vinyls or automotive vinyl stickers are applied.
The installation must be done in a dry environment between 18° and 35°C (64° and 95°F). In cold conditions, the solar panel will not have enough flexibility to form to your hood, and the adhesive will not properly bond. Your installation WILL FAIL.

I Installed a XterPower 90W (5A, 18v)hood panel on my 2104 Tacoma along with a XterPower 50W (2.8A,17.5v)panel on the top of my cab. My system uses a Redarc BCDC1240D charge controller with 2 Dakota Lithium 60Ah batteries (in parallel). I’ve had the panels about a year now and have monitored their performance at different times of the day throughout the year. The panels are performing as expected and I’ll soon be upgrading the 50W cab top panel with a larger custom sized 100w panel. So far, I’ve yet to see either panel output their max rated amps. I’ve moved the truck and adjusted the hood angle but haven’t seen the max amps as stated on the label. I’m able to maintain about 2.9amps from the hood panel and 1.9amps from the cab panel for the majority of the day, combined runs about 4.7amps. I have a 3rd 120W portable panel wired in parallel and can achieve about 11amps total with all 3 panels. These panels meet my needs for charging batteries while camping. Another plus is permanently mounted panels are convenient as my storage space is limited and it eliminates the worry about them being stolen when I’m away from camp. During the purchase and installation of the panels I had many questions, all of which were answered rapidly. XterPower has excellent customer support, five star!
I recommend XterPower panels and plan to add them to my other vehicles.
I have my panel installed and wired to a redarc bcdc. I used 3m tape to mount the panel to my hood. It performs better than I was expecting. I no longer need to start my truck to charge my second battery. I am running camp lights, a fridge and charging my kids electronics.
This 90w solar panel is absolutely incredible! Once installed, I am able to park my car out in the sun and charge my Goal Zero up just while my car is parked doing nothing! This, paired with charging my goal zero while I drive, is going to keep it topped off at all times while still charging my Dometic fridge! This is an absolute game changer if I want to stay camped in the same spot for a few days, without worrying about how charged my Goal Zero is.
These solar panels stand up to anything once installed. Highway wind, the pouring rain in Oregon, strong heat during heatwaves, and probably anything else that’s thrown at it! So glad I ended up getting one and there’s no way I’ll ever look back!
